Our own private, gated lagoon is 2–3 km long and about 1 km wide. In typical conditions, its first ~800 m is a knee-to-waist-deep teaching area over sand; the team chooses the active area for the actual tide and water level.

The lagoon moves in a clear sequence: beach briefing, roughly 800 m of stand-up teaching water, a wider independent kite zone, then a dedicated deeper area for wing and foil. Depth changes with the tide and daily conditions, so the active zones follow the current water level.
01 Beach & briefing
Your route starts at the Kitepower beach on the northern edge of the lagoon. Check the live wind, current water depth and marked zones with the team before setting up.
The prevailing N–NW wind is cross-onshore and runs diagonally toward the shore. A safe launch, right-of-way and a practised self-rescue still matter.
02 Stand-up shallows
For roughly the first 800 m off the beach, the water is knee-to-waist deep over a sandy bottom, in an area protected from normal waves and without a significant current. After a fall, you can often stand up and reset your equipment.
The teaching zone is separated from independent riders. Water depth changes with the tide, so the team chooses the active area for the current water level.
03 Beyond the shallows
Beyond the first roughly 800 m teaching area, the water gradually deepens and opens into a wider flat-water zone for independent kiters, separate from beginner teaching traffic.
This is the space for riding upwind, linking transitions and freestyle while staying inside the marked riding zone.
04 Depth & return plan
Wingfoiling and hydrofoiling use a dedicated deeper part of the lagoon. The exact area and mast length are chosen for the current water depth, which changes with the tide.
3 rescue boats are available during operating hours as an extra safety layer, without a guaranteed response time. They do not replace a practised self-rescue.

This is what makes the El Gouna lagoon especially well suited to learning. In typical conditions, the first ~800 m off the beach forms a knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area, so many learners can stand and reset there when the actual depth and their height allow. Rescue support is available during operating hours, but a specific intervention or response time cannot be guaranteed. Bring water shoes for the odd shell.

Why the northern edge matters
We're the northernmost base in El Gouna, with open reach immediately upwind for the prevailing N–NW cross-onshore direction. That direction usually has a shoreward component, but wind changes; the live station and beach briefing determine the safe area for each session.
Pack right
Summer is boardshorts and bikini weather — air 32–34°C. The cold months are mild and sunny, but the water cools: from January to March you'll want a full, long wetsuit — not a shorty, with a shorty for the April–May and November–December shoulders. We tell you straight so you pack right and never spend a session shivering.

Semi-private means 2 students of similar weight share one kite. If we can't pair you with a same-weight partner, you have two options: ride private 1:1 at the private rate, or keep the semi-private price and ride 1:1 for the equivalent (shorter) water time. We tell you up front, so it's never a surprise — and you never pay more than you booked.

Summer is usually warm enough for swimwear; for winter, including December, plan a full, long wetsuit and warm beach layers. Spring and November often suit a shorty. Wind chill, session length and your own comfort matter, so confirm suitable equipment for your dates.
The marked teaching area has a mainly sandy bottom. Reefs and stones occur elsewhere in the lagoon, and shells or hard objects cannot be ruled out in every direction. Use water shoes, stay in the active zones and follow the beach briefing.
Kitepower has a dedicated deeper wing & foil zone. Protected water with suitable depth gives you room to learn or progress without ocean swell; the team selects the session window for the tide and conditions. Wing certification here follows the IWO standard. The same prevailing N–NW wind that powers the kiters carries wings beautifully.
The prevailing wind is cross-onshore from the north to north-west (N–NW), typically 15–25 knots. That direction usually has a shoreward component, while our northern position leaves open reach immediately upwind. Direction and strength still change, so riders use the live station and beach briefing for the actual session.
