How Basic I Works — Step by Step

Since Basic I is the most popular course, let’s break it down in detail.

Hours 1-2: Fundamentals on Land and Water

  • Introduction to equipment — wing, board, foil, safety systems
  • Wing handling on the beach — how to hold it, catch wind, steer
  • Into the water on a large stable board without foil
  • Learning to stand on the board with the wing — balance, working with the wind

Hours 2-3: Riding on Water

  • Board on the water, wing in hands, you start moving
  • Learning to steer — riding downwind, attempting upwind
  • Falling, standing up, riding again. Shallow lagoon = you stand up

Hours 3-5: Transition to Foil

  • Adding the foil (or switching to a board with foil)
  • First attempts to lift the board above water
  • Learning to control flight height
  • Short flight segments — a few seconds, then a few dozen seconds
  • End of course: you have a basic understanding of foiling and know what comes next

Results vary by talent, fitness, and conditions. Some people foil by the end of the course, some need more time. Both are normal.

Why Max 4 Students Per Group

Many schools put 5-6 students per instructor. We don’t — maximum 4, each with their own wing setup. The reason is simple: wingfoiling requires individual attention. Every student moves differently, foils differently, needs different feedback.

With 4 students, the instructor still has time to watch each one, correct technique, and adjust the pace. And because everyone has their own wing and board, there’s no taking turns — everyone rides at the same time.

Equipment — What Exactly We Use

Wings: Flysurfer

Flysurfer wings in various sizes. Lighter wind means a bigger wing, stronger wind a smaller one. Instructors select the right size based on your weight and conditions.

We’ve used Flysurfer exclusively since 2009 (for kites) and take the same approach with wings. We know the equipment, test it, trust it.

Foils: Levitaz

Levitaz foils — a German brand we’ve been using since 2015. Various wing sizes:

  • Larger front wing for beginners — more lift, slower, forgives mistakes
  • Smaller front wing for advanced — faster, more agile

Boards

Larger boards for beginners (more stability), smaller for advanced (more maneuverability).

In total, our wing rental has complete gear for all levels and weights.

IWO Certification

IWO (International Wingfoil Organisation) certification is included in every course. It’s an internationally recognized proof of your level. At the end of the course, you receive a card that allows you to rent equipment anywhere in the world.

Discounts and Bonuses

  • 15% discount on new wing equipment after completing a course — if you decide to invest in your own wing or foil
  • 20% discount on the course if you bring your own equipment — we don’t need to lend you gear, so we pass the savings on
  • Open hours after the course — if you want to keep practicing, you can add more hours at €65-€115/h

Who Is Wingfoiling Suitable For

Wingfoiling doesn’t have the strict requirements of kitesurfing. Specifically:

  • Age: From teenagers to seniors — wing is physically less demanding than kite
  • Fitness: Basic fitness is enough — you don’t need to be an athlete
  • Experience: No prior experience needed, but windsurfers and kitesurfers learn faster
  • Swimming: You must be able to swim — you’re on the water

Windsurfers have a huge advantage — feel for wind and board. Kitesurfers too — they understand the wind window. But even complete newcomers learn the basics in a 5-hour course.

When to Take a Wing Course

We offer wing courses year-round. But conditions vary by season:

  • Summer (June-August): Lighter wind, but ideal for wing. Warm water, fewer people.
  • Autumn (September-November): Stronger wind, ideal for advanced. Busier spot.
  • Winter (December-February): Wind blows, but cooler water (wetsuit). Quiet spot.
  • Spring (March-May): Stable wind, warming up. Good value.

For beginners, we recommend quieter periods (summer, winter outside holidays) when instructors are less busy and there’s more space on the water.

How to Book

  1. Choose your course on the wing courses page
  2. Book through booking or via contact
  3. Show up at the spot — equipment, instructor, and facilities are ready

We recommend booking at least a few days ahead, during peak season even more. Get in touch, we’ll arrange a time that works for you.

Conclusion

Wing courses in El Gouna offer a complete package: professional instructors, top Flysurfer and Levitaz equipment, a shallow lagoon ideal for learning, and IWO certification included. Prices are transparent, groups are small, and conditions are among the best in the world for learning wingfoiling.
