Why El Gouna Is Ideal for Czech Kitesurfers

Czech kitesurfers make up about 15% of our guests. It’s not the largest group (that’s the Germans), but it’s a group that has something at Kitepower El Gouna that you won’t find elsewhere — Czech-speaking support directly from the owner.

Lukas Vogeltanz, co-owner of Kitepower El Gouna, is Czech. IKO Head Instructor since 2009, in El Gouna since 2004. Together with his wife Andrea, they’ve been co-owners since 2022. When you come to El Gouna as a Czech kitesurfer, you’re not heading into the unknown — you’re going to a place where they speak Czech.

Why El Gouna?

4-5 Hours From Prague

The flight from Prague to Hurghada takes approximately 4-5 hours. Direct flights, no connections. From Hurghada to El Gouna, it’s 20-30 minutes — we offer a transfer for €35-40 and pick you up directly at the airport.

For comparison: if you want warm water, reliable wind, and a shallow lagoon, alternatives like Brazil, Zanzibar, or Cape Verde mean a significantly longer journey. El Gouna is the closest top kite spot for Central Europeans.

The Season When You Need It

Czech weather from November to March — wet, grey, wind irregular and cold. During exactly this period, El Gouna is fantastic. In January and February you need a wetsuit (water around 18-20°C), but there’s wind and it’s quiet — fewer people on the spot. From March it warms up, in April you ride in boardshorts.

In other words: when things are at their worst in the Czech Republic, you can ride in El Gouna. And that’s essential information for a Czech kitesurfer.

Czech-Speaking Support

Lukas isn’t here as a mascot. He runs the school, trains instructors, selects equipment, manages operations. When you need advice about a course, equipment, or which kite to rent for your weight and wind — you can discuss it in Czech.

That doesn’t mean only Czechs teach here. We have 25 instructors in peak season, speaking 7 languages. But a Czech-speaking contact is always here — either Lukas directly or someone from the team.

In practice, it looks like this:

  • Before arrival: Write in Czech by email or through the contact form. We reply in Czech.
  • At the spot: Lukas or a Czech-speaking colleague helps with orientation, equipment selection, course recommendations.
  • After departure: Need to ship equipment? Want advice on next steps? In Czech, no problem.

What We Offer — Specifically

Kite Courses

Basic I course — 8 hours, group €465, private €695. Includes all equipment, walkie-talkie communication, free IKO certification. VDWS certification for an additional €40 (popular mainly with Germans, but some Czechs want it too).

Wing Courses

Wing Basic I — 5 hours, group €365, private €515. Wingfoiling is a great alternative for lighter wind days and is quicker to learn than kitesurfing.

Rental

250+ kites (Flysurfer — Indie, Stoke, ERA, Soul, Sonic, Hybrid from 2.5 to 21 m²), over 70 boards, Levitaz foils. Complete kite rental and wing rental. Exclusively Flysurfer since 2009, Levitaz since 2015 — we know the equipment inside out.

Storage and Kitepass

Kitepass for €10/day gives you spot access. Storage from €13/day up to €900/season — if you visit regularly, it makes sense to leave your equipment in Egypt instead of flying it back and forth.

Czech Kite Community in El Gouna

This is hard to describe, but it’s real: over the years, a small Czech kite community has formed in El Gouna. People who come repeatedly — some every year, some twice a year, some for a month or two.

You’ll meet Czechs riding solo, couples, families. It’s not an organized group — Czech kitesurfers simply gather here naturally because the spot is quality and the support is Czech.

Many of them first met here and now plan their trips together. We can’t arrange that — it just happens.

80-90% of Guests Return

This figure applies overall, not just for Czechs. But among Czech guests, it’s even more pronounced — those who come once usually come back. The reasons are always the same:

  • They know it here. They know where everything is, know the instructors, know the spot.
  • They trust the quality. Flysurfer and Levitaz equipment, professional instructors, rescue boat.
  • The price makes sense. Egypt is more affordable than European destinations, equipment and instruction are top level.
  • They have friends here. After a few visits, you know people — and that’s a reason to return.

Families and Beyond Sport

El Gouna isn’t just a kite spot. It’s a place where you can bring the whole family — including a partner or kids who don’t kite.

  • Kids’ playground right at the spot
  • Restaurant with food and cold drinks steps from the water
  • Coworking — air-conditioned glass room with a sea view (for those combining work and sport)
  • El Gouna as a resort offers hotels, pools, shops, a hospital

A partner can spend time at the beach, by the pool, walking around the marina. Kids can swim in the shallow lagoon. And you kite.

When to Go?

Here’s a brief overview for Czech kitesurfers:

  • October-November: Best wind, warm weather, boardshorts. Most popular period — book early.
  • December: Transitional, before Christmas quiet, then Christmas/New Year’s = busy.
  • January-February: Cooler, wetsuit needed, but quiet spot and lowest prices. Great for those who want peace.
  • March: Warming up, stable wind, excellent value.
  • April-June: Warm, boardshorts, Easter = busy.
  • July-August: Hot (35-40°C), but from mid-August the best wind. Few people in July = advantage.
