October to April — that’s the period when most kitesurfers head to El Gouna. And for good reason: reliable wind, pleasant temperatures, and conditions that work for all levels. But not every month is the same. In this article, we’ll break down each month separately — honestly, with specific data and practical advice.
October — The Absolute Peak
- Air: 28-32°C
- Water: 26-28°C
- Clothing: Boardshorts, short lycra
- Wind: Strong and consistent — the best month of the year
October is our busiest month. After the European summer, everyone wants to get back on the water — and El Gouna delivers the best it can offer. Wind blows steadily, temperature is pleasant, water is warm.
What it means practically:
- The spot is busy — but thanks to our position in northern El Gouna (last base, unlimited downwind space), there’s plenty of room
- Instructors are fully booked — especially German-speaking (German-speaking countries = over 50% of guests)
- Accommodation is more expensive and fully booked
- Book at least a month ahead, ideally more
For details on October, we have a separate article.
November — Still Excellent, A Bit Calmer
- Air: 24-28°C
- Water: 24-26°C
- Clothing: Shorty wetsuit or boardshorts
- Wind: Strong, stable
November is one of the best months in terms of value for money. Wind is still excellent, temperature pleasant, but the October crowds are thinning. Accommodation prices start dropping.
Why consider November:
- Conditions almost like October
- Fewer people on the spot
- Better instructor availability
- Lower accommodation prices than October
- Still warm weather — a shorty wetsuit is enough
November is our tip for those who want top conditions without the October pressure.
December — Transition Then Holidays
- Air: 18-24°C
- Water: 21-23°C
- Clothing: Full wetsuit
- Wind: Variable
December is a specific month. The first half is calm — fewer people, lower prices, wind blows but isn’t as consistent as autumn. Temperature drops and you need a full wetsuit.
Then Christmas and New Year’s arrive — and the spot fills up. The holidays are popular in El Gouna (warmth instead of European winter), so prices and occupancy rise.
Practically:
- Early December = good value, quiet spot
- Christmas/New Year’s = book well in advance, prices up
- Plan for a full wetsuit
January — Cool, Quiet, Affordable
- Air: 15-20°C
- Water: 18-20°C
- Clothing: Full wetsuit, neoprene boots
- Wind: Blows, often strong
January is our quietest “winter” month. Temperatures are the lowest of the year — but you’re still in Egypt, not Europe. 15-20°C air, 18-20°C water. With a full wetsuit, it’s fine.
January advantages:
- Fewest people on the spot all year (along with February)
- Lowest accommodation prices
- Instructors have time — ideal for private lessons
- Wind blows reliably
- Calm atmosphere, no crowds
Disadvantages:
- You need a good wetsuit (3/2 or 4/3 mm)
- Shorter days — fewer hours of daylight
- Evenings can be chilly
January is for those who want peace, space, and low prices. And who don’t mind wearing a wetsuit.
February — Similar to January, Starting to Warm Up
- Air: 16-22°C
- Water: 18-20°C
- Clothing: Full wetsuit
- Wind: Stable
February is basically a continuation of January — quiet, affordable, wetsuit territory. Toward the end of the month, it slowly starts warming up. Conditions are great for those seeking space and calm.
March — Warming Up, Stable Wind, Great Value
- Air: 20-26°C
- Water: 20-22°C
- Clothing: Shorty wetsuit
- Wind: Stable, reliable
March is our second tip for best value (alongside November). Temperatures rise, you transition from full to shorty wetsuit, wind blows steadily. The spot is slowly filling up but isn’t peak yet.
Why March:
- Stable wind, pleasant temperatures
- Fewer people than April (before Easter)
- Better accommodation prices than peak season
- Ideal for courses — good wind, instructors available
April — Warm, Easter, Busy
- Air: 26-32°C
- Water: 22-24°C
- Clothing: Boardshorts, short lycra
- Wind: Good, stable
April is warm and pleasant. Boardshorts are back. But watch out — Easter in April is peak: lots of people, higher prices, busy instructors.
Practically:
- Easter week = book well in advance
- Outside Easter = excellent conditions, reasonable prices
- Temperatures ideal — not too hot, not too cold

Practical Booking Advice
When to Book an Instructor
- October, Easter, Christmas: At least 4-6 weeks ahead
- German-speaking instructor: Even earlier — demand exceeds capacity
- January-February: A week ahead usually works, but earlier = certainty
- November, March: 2-3 weeks ahead is ideal

Wingfoiling as a Season Extension
Observant readers will have noticed that winter months have good wind. And for wingfoiling, you need even less wind than for kitesurfing (10-12 knots). So even days when there’s not enough wind for kite are fine for wing.
If you visit in January-February or March and want to maximize your time on the water, consider combining kitesurfing + wingfoiling. Strong wind = kite, lighter wind = wing.
Conclusion
October to April is the main season in El Gouna — and rightfully so. Wind blows, conditions are excellent, and the lagoon is ready. But not every month is the same.
Our recommendation for best value: November and March. Excellent conditions, fewer people, reasonable prices.
For the absolute best wind: October. But expect crowds and higher prices.
For peace and space: January-February. Wetsuit yes, but the spot practically to yourself.
Whatever month you choose — book early and we’ll see you at the spot.
