Before you book a kite course, you want to know what you’re paying for. We get it. Kite course prices can seem high, and when you look at different schools, it’s often unclear what’s included and what isn’t. Some schools list a low price and then you find out you have to pay extra for equipment, extra for the certificate, extra for insurance.
We do things differently. Let’s break down exactly what you get.
Basic Prices
Our core course Basic I is 8 hours long and available in two formats:
- Semi-private: 465 € — maximum 2 students per instructor
- Private: 695 € — 1 student, 1 instructor
Those 8 hours are spread across 2 sessions per day, each roughly 1.5 hours. So the course typically takes 3 days. Why not 8 hours straight? Because kitesurfing is physically demanding and after 1.5 hours on the water, your concentration and strength decline. Short sessions with a break between them are simply more effective.
If you want to know more about the difference between semi-private and private, we have a dedicated article on lesson formats.
What’s Included in the Price
Full Flysurfer Equipment
You don’t need to own, buy, or arrange anything. The course price includes:
- Kite — we ride exclusively on Flysurfer since 2009. We have over 250 kites in models Indie, Stoke, ERA, Soul, Sonic, and Hybrid, in sizes from 2.5 m² to 21 m². For instruction, we mainly use smaller models that are safer and easier to control.
- Board — over 70 boards in various sizes. The instructor selects the right one based on your weight and level.
- Harness — a seat harness for beginners that keeps the kite attached to your body.
- Helmet — mandatory for all students.
- Safety vest — mandatory for all students on the lagoon.
You don’t even need to worry about a wetsuit — in Egypt, most of the year you ride in a rashguard or t-shirt. The lagoon water is a comfortable temperature. If you do want a wetsuit (winter months), we’ll lend you one.
IKO Instructor
All our instructors are certified by IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization). Lukáš, one of the school’s co-owners, has been an IKO Head Instructor since 2009. That’s not just a title — it means he’s authorised to train and certify other instructors.
During peak season, we have up to 25 instructors who speak a total of 7 languages. Czech and German are a given, but you can also communicate in English and several other languages.
Walkie-Talkie Communication
This is something many schools don’t have and it makes an enormous difference. Every student has a walkie-talkie on their helmet and the instructor gives you guidance in real time. You don’t have to try to lip-read what the instructor is showing from the shore. You simply hear: “Pull the left hand down. Yes, like that. Now board on your feet. Good, stand straight.”
Instant feedback means you make fewer mistakes and learn faster. And most importantly — it’s safer. If you find yourself in a situation you can’t handle, the instructor tells you exactly what to do.
Free IKO Certification
After completing the course, you receive an IKO certificate confirming your level. This certificate is internationally recognised — you can use it at any IKO school in the world to prove your level or to rent equipment.
With us, IKO certification is free as part of the course. At some schools, you pay an extra 30–50 € for it. Not with us.
If you also want VDWS certification (the German system), we offer it for 40 €.
Equipment Insurance During Lessons
During the course, you ride on our equipment and don’t have to worry about damaging it. If something happens — and trust me, it does happen sometimes, it’s part of learning — you don’t pay for damaged equipment. Insurance is included in the course price.
This is important because kite equipment isn’t cheap. A single kite costs 1,000–2,000 €, a board 500–1,000 €. Knowing you won’t be liable for any damage lets you focus on learning without being afraid to try.
Rescue Boat on the Water
A rescue boat with crew is on the lagoon all day. If anything were to happen — loss of energy, changing conditions, a technical problem — the boat is there within minutes. This isn’t something you should take for granted. Many spots around the world have no rescue boat.
15% Discount on New Equipment
After completing the course, you’re entitled to a 15% discount on new Flysurfer and Levitaz equipment in our shop. If you decide you want your own kite, board, or foil, you save right from the start. And since we’ve been riding exclusively Flysurfer since 2009 and Levitaz since 2015, we know exactly what to recommend.
What’s NOT Included in the Price
To be fair, here’s what you cover yourself:
Accommodation
El Gouna offers everything from hostels to five-star resorts. Prices vary significantly by season and type. We don’t offer accommodation packages — our experience is that everyone has different preferences and budgets.
Food
You can eat right at our beachside restaurant or anywhere in El Gouna. At the centre, we have food and drinks at reasonable prices, so you don’t need to go anywhere.
Airport Transfer from Hurghada
Hurghada airport (HRG) is about 30–40 minutes from El Gouna. A transfer costs 35–40 € per trip and we’re happy to arrange it for you. But you’re not obliged to use us — you can arrange your own transfer or take a taxi.
Kitepass
If you want to ride the lagoon independently after your course (with your own equipment or rented from us), you need a Kitepass for 10 € per day. This is the fee for using the spot.
Semi-Private vs. Private — Which to Choose?
Both options include the exact same equipment, the same insurance, the same IKO certification, the same walkie-talkie. The difference is in instructor attention and water time.
In semi-private, you share the kite with another student. In practice, that means out of a 1.5-hour session you get about 45 minutes on the water. In private, you get the full 90 minutes.
For most people, semi-private is an excellent choice. The breaks between rides aren’t wasted time — you watch your partner, learn from their mistakes, and rest. Kitesurfing is physically demanding and those breaks help.
Private makes sense if you have limited time (say only 3 days for your entire holiday), want maximum progression, or simply prefer an individual approach.
How to Book a Course
You can book through our online booking system or write to us via the contact form. We recommend booking in advance, especially during peak season (March–May and September–November), when we’re fully booked.
Conclusion
For 465 € (semi-private) or 695 € (private) you get a complete 8-hour course with Flysurfer equipment, an IKO certified instructor, walkie-talkie communication, a free IKO certificate, equipment insurance, and a 15% discount on new gear. No hidden fees, no surcharges for things that should be standard.
We’ve been teaching since 2004, at our current spot in northern El Gouna since 2016. Over that time, we’ve found that pricing transparency is something people appreciate more than marketing promises. So there you have it — exactly how it is.
