Kite Equipment Rental in El Gouna — What’s Included?

One of the most common questions we get from guests: “Should I bring my own kite, or can I rent one from you?” The answer depends on your level, how often you ride, and mainly whether you want to always have the right kite on the water for the current conditions.

What You Need to Rent

Let’s be upfront right from the start — the rental isn’t for everyone. To rent kite equipment, you need IKO certification at minimum Level 3. That means you must be able to ride independently — launch, landing, riding in both directions, and basic safety procedures.

Don’t have an IKO certificate? No problem. Take a kite course with us and you’ll get the certificate as part of your training — IKO certification is free with us.

Why do we do this? Because of safety. There are always other people on the water and we need to be sure that everyone who rents a kite knows what they’re doing. It’s not bureaucracy — it’s common sense.

250+ Kites — Why It Matters

This number isn’t just a marketing figure. We have over 250 kites ranging from 2.5 to 21 m². And that’s a huge advantage over bringing your own equipment.

How It Works in Practice

You come to the spot, check the conditions — wind, waves, your weight. Our instructor recommends a kite size. 20 knots of wind? You get a 9 meter. Only 12 knots? You take a 14 meter. Really light wind? We have a 21-meter Flysurfer Soul that will get you riding in conditions where most kiters with their own 12-meter kite would be sitting on the beach.

We ride Flysurfer kites — a brand we’ve been using since 2009. These are foil kites with an enormous wind range that are perfectly suited for El Gouna’s conditions. Paired with Levitaz boards and foils, which we’ve been working with since 2015.

What’s Included in the Rental Price

When you rent kite equipment from us, you don’t just get a kite and board. The price includes:

  • Kite in the recommended size for current conditions
  • Board (twintip or directional depending on preference and conditions)
  • Harness (if you need one)
  • Assisted launch and landing — our beach team helps you with safe takeoff and landing
  • Rescue boat — the rescue boat is on the water at all times
  • Spot access with full facilities (sun loungers, showers, toilets)

That’s a key difference from many other rentals. Here, the rescue boat isn’t an add-on and launch assist isn’t extra. It’s included.

Insurance — Optional but Recommended

We offer optional insurance for €10–15/day, which covers potential equipment damage up to €200 per incident. If you’re riding in more challenging conditions or aren’t entirely confident, we recommend taking it.

Without insurance, you’re responsible for any damage to the equipment. With insurance, you have peace of mind and can focus on riding.

Prepaid Packages — How to Save

Single-day rental is more expensive than packages. If you know you’ll be riding for multiple days, prepaid packages save you money:

  • 3 rental days within 7 days of your stay
  • 7 rental days within 10 days of your stay
  • 10 rental days within 14 days of your stay

Specific prices are on our kite rental page or you can check them when booking.

The advantage of packages is clear — more days means a lower daily rate. And if there’s no wind one day, you have “buffer” days in your package to fill the gap.

How the Rental Works — Step by Step

  1. Come to the spot and show your IKO certificate (or another recognized one — VDWS etc.)
  2. Consultation with instructor — we check conditions and recommend a kite size
  3. We prepare the equipment — kite, board, harness
  4. Launch with assistance — our beach team helps you with takeoff
  5. You ride — the rescue boat is on the water in case you need it
  6. Landing with assistance — safe landing back on the beach
  7. Return the equipment — we rinse it and store it

The whole thing is worry-free. You don’t have to deal with inflating, folding, washing salt out of the gear. You just ride and we take care of the rest.

Who Is the Rental Ideal For

Traveling Kiters

Ride at different spots around the world and don’t want to haul equipment everywhere? The rental is ideal. Fly in with a small suitcase, first day you’re on the water.

Kiters Transitioning to New Gear

Thinking about switching from a tube kite to a foil kite? Or from a twintip board to a hydrofoil? With us, you can try it out without investing thousands of euros in equipment you’re not sure about yet.

Light Wind Riders

Here’s the hidden advantage of our rental. When it blows 10-12 knots, many kiters with their own 12-meter kite sit on the beach. With us, you get a 17-meter or 21-meter kite and you ride. That’s a huge difference — instead of waiting for wind, you’re on the water.

Couples and Groups

Traveling with a partner or friends with different weights? Everyone gets a different kite size. No arguing about who gets to go on the water first with the one kite you brought.

When It’s Better to Have Your Own Equipment

To be fair — rental isn’t always the best choice:

  • You ride at one spot regularly — then consider storage and keep your gear here
  • You have very specific preferences — an extremely specialized setup that we don’t carry
  • You ride daily for weeks — for long stays, own equipment works out better

For most kiters visiting for 1-2 weeks, the rental is more convenient and practical.

Why Not Every Rental Is the Same

We’ve been operating in El Gouna since 2004 and at our current northern spot since 2016. In that time, we’ve figured out what works and what doesn’t. We have unlimited upwind space, which means you don’t have to worry about drifting somewhere you can’t get back from.

The lagoon is 2-3 km wide, shallow, and sandy. If you fall, you stand up. That’s a huge advantage for safety and for your peace of mind — even if you’re renting a kite for the first time.

Summary

Our rental offers more than just a kite and board. It’s a complete service — from recommending the right size to assisted launch to a rescue boat on the water. With prepaid packages, you save money, and with 250+ kites, you’re guaranteed to ride in any conditions.

If you have IKO Level 3 or higher, check out the rental page and pick a package that suits you. And if you don’t have the certificate, start with a course — certification is included.
