Child learning with an instructor in the first roughly 800 m teaching area of the El Gouna lagoon

Kids kitesurfing · El Gouna, Egypt · since 2004

Kids kitesurfing in El Gouna. From 20 kg.

The first roughly 800 m is a sandy teaching area that is typically knee-to-waist deep; actual depth changes with the tide and conditions. One instructor, never more than two children and one setup. A two-way helmet keeps your child and coach in direct contact throughout the lesson.

  • From 20 kg · usually age 5–6
  • Max 2 kids per instructor
  • 4.8 / 549
  • 8 languages on the beach

A kids programme, not a smaller adult lesson

Before we launch, four things must say yes.

We never pretend kitesurfing is risk-free. We start only when the child, equipment, communication and conditions all fit — in that order.
  1. 01 04 Child Ready · from 20 kg

    First, the child says yes.

Weight is only the first check. Most children reach 20 kg at around 5–6, but comfort in water, attention and their own motivation decide whether today is the right day.

    • Comfortable in water and keen to try
    • Readiness assessed individually — never by age alone
    • An honest “not yet” if waiting is the better choice
  2. 02 04 Equipment Fit · child-sized

The equipment must fit their body.

A smaller rider needs more than adult gear tightened down. From our 250+-kite fleet we select a small harness, impact vest, helmet, light kite and short board for the child's weight, fit, readiness and the conditions that day.

    • Fitted individually from 20 kg
    • Warm full wetsuit provided when winter conditions call for it
    • All course equipment included — nothing to buy or bring
  3. 03 04 Coaching Contact · max 2

The instructor stays in the conversation.

A BB Talkin two-way helmet keeps your child and instructor in direct contact on the water. The standard limit is 2 children per instructor and one complete setup; semi-private pupils take turns, while private one-to-one coaching is available.

    • Your child hears the coach — and can answer back
    • Close supervision instead of a crowded group
    • The instructor decides when each next skill is ready
  4. 04 04 Lagoon Conditions · room to reset

The water must give them room to reset.

The first roughly 800 m of our teaching area is knee-to-waist deep over sand. Depending on their height, a child can often stand after a fall. 3 boats during operating hours add organised backup, without replacing judgement or promising a specific response time.

    • Sandy bottom, without shore break or current
    • Conditions checked before and throughout the lesson
    • Rescue cover supports — it never replaces — practical safety skills

All four say yes? Only then does the lesson begin — on sand, without rushing.

Wind. Control. Board. Next skill.

We start on the beach, build confidence in the shallows and introduce the board only when your child is ready. This is the route, not a promised timetable: every transition is assessed individually.
  1. 01 Beach · Safety & control

First, make the wind feel understandable.

We start dry, on the sand, with a small trainer kite and simple games. Your child gets time to feel how the kite responds before anyone moves into the water.

    • Short, playful blocks

  2. 02 Shallows · Confidence

Then add water — where they can often stand.

In the knee-to-waist-deep teaching area, the focus moves to kite control and safe movement in the water. The exercise and pace are adapted to your child's size, confidence and progress.

  3. 03 Board · No deadline

The board is a next skill, not a deadline.

When your child is ready — and only then — we introduce a kid-sized board. Sessions stay in short blocks with plenty of breaks, without rushing or turning one result into a promise.

  4. 04 Next · Honest feedback

Finish with a clear next step — not a calendar promise.

Children progress differently. After the lesson, we explain what your child can already do and which skill makes sense next; readiness for each new step is assessed individually.

Semi-private = two kids of similar weight share an instructor. Not sure the full course is the right start? See Open Hours below — or just ask and we'll set up the right plan for your child.

How semi-private pairing works: semi-private means 2 students of similar weight share one kite. If we can’t pair you with a same-weight partner, you have two options — ride private 1:1 at the private rate, or keep the semi-private price and ride 1:1 for the equivalent (shorter) water time. You’re told up front, so it’s never a surprise and you never pay more than you booked.

No need to commit

Or start with Open Hours — pay as you go.

Kids don't have to begin with the full 8-hour package. With Open Hours your child rides as far as they get and you only pay for the hours you actually use — book an hour, see how they take to it, add more when they're ready. The more hours you do, the lower the per-hour rate. Same kid-sized gear, helmet coaching and rescue support available during operating hours, without a guaranteed intervention or response time. Open Hours and courses record only the IKO skills the child actually demonstrates; time booked or completed does not guarantee a level.

Instructor riding with children on the El Gouna kite lagoon at Kitepower

Owner-operated, on the beach every day

The oldest kite school in El Gouna, with a dedicated kids programme.

Kitepower has taught on this lagoon since 2004. It's owner-operated by Lukáš and Andrea, who are on the beach themselves — not an anonymous resort desk. We built a proper kids program around real safety infrastructure, because we teach our own community's children here too.

A lagoon built for learning

A defined sandy teaching area — and you can check conditions before they fly.

Steady cross-onshore wind on roughly 77% of days a year, year-round, over a private lagoon whose first ~800 m forms a knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area in typical conditions. The active area follows the actual tide and water level. Our own weather station, 16-day forecast and live webcam let you inspect the conditions before you arrive. Even the quietest month, December, still records about 6 days in 10.

Bring the whole family

More than a kite school — a place for kids to spend the whole day.

While one child kites — or between their lessons — there's a real kids' world to play in, right on site. Safety comes first on the water, and family comes first off it: we built the kind of place we'd want our own children to grow up at, with child gear in the smallest sizes so even the youngest riders are properly protected.

Lessons run right in front of the SALT beach club & restaurant, so you can watch every minute from a sun bed. Not kiting? There's food, a lounge, and a relaxed beach to enjoy while one child learns and the rest of the family unwinds. There's plenty to do off the water in El Gouna, too.

Honest answers for parents

What if there's no one my weight for a semi-private lesson?

Semi-private means 2 students of similar weight share one kite. If we can't pair you with a same-weight partner, you have two options: ride private 1:1 at the private rate, or keep the semi-private price and ride 1:1 for the equivalent (shorter) water time. We tell you up front, so it's never a surprise — and you never pay more than you booked.

What age can my child start kitesurfing?

The minimum is 20 kg; most children reach it at around 5–6 years old. We also assess water confidence, strength, attention and motivation individually, so message us their age and weight and we'll tell you honestly if the time is right.

Is kitesurfing safe for kids?

It's a controlled risk, taught the right way — we never promise zero risk. Lessons use a maximum of 2 kids per instructor (often one-to-one), the first roughly 800 m knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area when conditions suit, and two-way helmet coaching. 3 rescue boats are available during operating hours, but a specific intervention or response time cannot be guaranteed.

Does my child need to know how to swim?

Yes — your child should be comfortable in the water. In typical conditions, the first ~800 m off our beach forms the knee-to-waist-deep teaching area. Actual depth varies with tide, location and the child's height, so the instructor checks the water level and selects the suitable zone; a buoyant impact vest is worn throughout.

How long before my child can ride on their own?

There's no honest answer in hours — kids progress at their own pace, and we'd rather build solid, safe habits than rush them onto a board. Some take to it in a few sessions; others enjoy the kite-control stage longer. We tell you exactly where your child stands after every lesson.

What does my child need to bring?

Nothing but swimwear, sunscreen and a towel. We select a suitable kite, board, harness, vest and helmet for the child's weight, fit and the day's conditions. Course equipment is included.

Can I watch my child during the lesson?

Absolutely. You can watch the whole session from the beach or from the SALT beach club right beside the water — with a coffee in hand. Many parents kite at the same time; others just relax and watch.

What is there for kids to do off the water?

On site there is a natural wooden playground with a rope bridge, a football pitch, a volleyball court, trampolines, a slide, a small indoor playroom for toddlers and a games room for older kids and teens. These are family activity areas, not supervised childcare; an accompanying adult remains responsible at all times.

What size gear do you have for young children?

We carry child harnesses and impact vests in the smallest available sizes, alongside kid-sized helmets, light kites and short boards. We fit every child individually; the course starts only when the equipment and conditions suit their weight and readiness.

What if there's no wind on our days?

Booked hours never expire — that's our Wind Guarantee, so you never lose money to a calm day. And the wind shows up: from our own weather station, about 77% of days a year are rideable, peaking around 85% in August.

How much does a kids lesson cost?

Kids lessons are priced the same as our adult courses — from €465 for the 8-hour course (two kids per instructor) or €695 one-to-one. There are no hidden fees and no spot charges. Not sure where to start? Message us and we'll guide you.

What should my child wear — is the water cold?

In summer, swimwear is fine. In winter the air sits around 22 °C, so children wear a full wetsuit (we provide it) — not boardshorts. Kids feel the cold faster than adults, so we keep winter sessions warm and short.

The hardest part is deciding they're ready. We'll help you with that bit.

Max 2 kids per instructor · two-way helmet coaching · 3 rescue boats available during operating hours, with no guaranteed intervention or response time · hours never expire. Tell us your child's age and weight and we'll guide you honestly.
