This is a question we get all the time: “I want to go kitesurfing, but I have a family. What will everyone else do?”

Short answer: there are practical options for different interests. Here is how to check whether El Gouna fits your family.

The Non-Kiting Partner

Let’s be honest – not every partner shares your enthusiasm for kitesurfing. And that’s perfectly fine. El Gouna offers so many activities that the non-kiting half of the couple often ends up with a fuller schedule than the kiting one.

A Day on the Beach

Our center has a beach club and restaurant right on the sand. Your partner grabs a book, orders a smoothie, soaks up the sun, and watches you on the water. Maybe waves at you occasionally. It’s relaxing, beautiful, and an entirely legitimate way to spend a holiday.

Sports and Wellness

El Gouna has a golf course, padel courts, squash, fitness centers, and several spas. Those who want to stay active have options. Those who want to relax – also covered.

Snorkeling and Diving

The Red Sea is known for snorkeling and diving. Operator schedules, routes, weather limits and safety standards vary, so verify the specific trip before booking. For many non-kiting partners, the underwater programme is a major reason to visit.

Shopping and Culture

Downtown El Gouna has shops, cafes, and galleries. Abu Tig Marina offers restaurants with harbor views. And for those who want culture – a day trip to Luxor or Cairo is an unforgettable experience.

Kids in El Gouna

El Gouna is a managed resort town with controlled entrances and local security. Traffic is generally calmer than in busy Hurghada, but this is not a safety guarantee: adults remain responsible for children, normal travel precautions apply and current official advice should be checked before departure. Our Playground

Right at the Kitepower center, we have a large wooden playground with climbing frames, walkways, bridges, and trampolines, plus a kids’ corner for the little ones. These are family activity areas, not supervised childcare: an accompanying adult must stay nearby and remains responsible for the child. Since the playground is right next to the beach restaurant, that adult can keep an eye on the children while having lunch.

Kite Courses for Kids

Here’s something many parents don’t know: kids can start kitesurfing with us from around 5–6 years old (minimum weight around 20 kg). We have a dedicated kids’ programme with smaller kites and an approach adapted to the child’s age.

Lessons use the lagoon’s first roughly 800 metres, a knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area. Beyond it are separate riding and deeper foil zones, and depth changes with tide and conditions. Instructors use two-way BB Talkin helmets, and standard lessons have a maximum of two students per instructor.

Wing Courses for Kids

Sliders Cable Park

The cable park for wakeboarding is in El Gouna and it’s a hit with older kids and teenagers. Plus they have an inflatable aqua park on the water – slides, trampolines, obstacles. For families with kids aged 8+, it’s a perfect afternoon program.

Hotel Kids’ Clubs

Some hotels advertise kids’ clubs or organised activities. Before booking, verify the child’s accepted age, opening times, language, supervision model, extra charges and whether the programme will operate on your dates. These hotel services are separate from Kitepower; our playground and playroom are not supervised childcare.

Horses and Desert Safari

Older kids will enjoy a horseback ride along the beach or a desert safari on camels. These are experiences they’ll be telling their classmates about for weeks.

Practical Tips for Families

Accommodation

El Gouna has hotels of all categories – from apartments to five-star resorts. For families, we recommend apartments or villas with a kitchen – it’s more flexible and cheaper than a hotel. Many of our families rent an apartment for 2–3 weeks. For options near the spot, see our accommodation guide.

Safety

El Gouna is a gated resort. That means:

• Controlled entrances and local security services
• A managed resort environment with shops, medical services and transport options
• Generally calmer traffic than busy Hurghada, including tuk-tuks and golf buggies
• Normal travel awareness and uninterrupted adult responsibility for children

How It Works in Practice

A typical day for a family with us looks like this:

Morning: Breakfast at the beach restaurant. You agree which accompanying adult stays responsible for the children while another adult goes to a lesson, the beach, spa or golf.

Late morning: Kitesurfing. Children can be in a booked lesson with their instructor, or at the playground with their accompanying adult nearby. The play areas themselves do not provide supervision.

Lunch: Everyone meets at the beach restaurant. Children can play while their accompanying adult remains nearby and responsible.

Afternoon: Second lesson or free riding. Family at the cable park / pool / on a trip.

Evening: Dinner together. Go-karts. Or just sitting on the beach watching the stars.

Why It Works

The key is that everything is close by. From the kite spot to the restaurant is 30 seconds. From the playground to the water is a few dozen metres. You don’t need to drive anywhere far or organize anything complicated. The family can build different activities into one beach day, provided an accompanying adult remains responsible whenever a child is not in a booked supervised lesson.
