October delivers about 81% rideable days, 30 °C air and warm water in El Gouna. See what makes it popular and what to book early.

October is one of El Gouna’s most popular kite months, but not because it tops every wind statistic. Riders choose it for the combination: warm water, less intense heat and reliable wind. Our school history dates to 2004, and the current lagoon base to 2016, so the team has watched many Octobers come and go.

Numbers, Not Impressions

• Air temperature: about 28–32 °C
• Water temperature: about 26–28 °C
• Clothing: boardshorts and a rashguard, no wetsuit
• Wind: about 81% rideable days in our four-year station record
• Daylight: enough hours for two full sessions

October is the month when everything comes together. It’s not too hot (like July), it’s not cool (like January). The wind blows strong and regularly. The water is warm from the summer months. The days are long enough.

Why October Stands Out

Reliable Wind After the Hottest Weeks

Summer is not one single wind pattern: June and August are among the strongest months in our record, while July is lighter. By October the heat eases and clean N–NW wind still produces a long, reliable riding window.

What that means in practice: October recorded 81% rideable days, compared with a 77% annual average. August leads our current record at 85%, with June and September at 83%, so October is not the absolute wind peak — it is one of the best combinations of reliable wind and comfortable weather. Temperature That Makes Sense

Around 30 °C in the air, 27 °C in the water. You’re in boardshorts and a rashguard. No putting on a wetsuit, no peeling one off, no drying one out. You just go on the water and ride.

For comparison: in January the water drops to roughly 18–20 °C and you’ll want a full, long wetsuit (we provide it). In October? None of that. And that difference in comfort is enormous.

Ideal for All Levels

October conditions work for beginners and advanced riders alike:

• Beginners: the first roughly 800 m knee-to-waist-deep teaching area, warm water and measured wind make it practical for courses. Depth still changes with tide and daily conditions.
• Advanced: historical data may show stronger windows, but the suitable discipline and zone depend on the live wind, depth and traffic. Our northern position can offer an open approach in the prevailing pattern; it does not guarantee unlimited upwind space.
• Wing: wingfoiling conditions are excellent too — stronger wind means comfortable riding even on a smaller wing.

Yes, It’s Busy

We’ll say it honestly: October is our busiest month. Why?

After the European summer, kitesurfers from across the continent want to get back on the water. El Gouna is the closest top spot with warm water for Central Europeans, so October brings a lot of visitors.

What that means:

• More people at the spot — but thanks to our position (northern tip, a 2–3 km lagoon split into three zones) there’s plenty of space.
• Instructors are busy — German-speaking instructors especially, since German guests are our largest group.
• Accommodation is more expensive and fills up quickly.
• The beach club and facilities are livelier.

It’s not an obstacle — it’s just reality to plan around in advance.

How to Book for October

Courses and Instructors

Book at least 4–6 weeks ahead. If you want a German-speaking instructor — even earlier. German-speaking capacity is limited and demand in October is highest. Across the team our instructors cover eight languages, so there’s a good chance we can match you with someone in your own language.

Accommodation

Flights

There are direct flights to Hurghada (HRG) from most European cities. October flights are popular — the earlier you buy, the better.

Transfer

From Hurghada airport to El Gouna it’s about 30–40 minutes. We can arrange a transfer and pick you up directly at the airport — see getting here for the latest.

What to Bring

October in El Gouna is simple to pack for:

• On the water: boardshorts, a UV rashguard, and sunscreen SPF 50+
• Your own equipment: if you have it, great — you save on rental. If not, our rental centre runs 250+ kites and 60+ boards, with suitable equipment selected for rider and measured conditions subject to availability and safe rideability.
• Evenings: light clothing — evening temperatures hover around 22–25 °C
• Documents: passport and visa (available on arrival at Hurghada airport)

October vs. November — Which Is Better?

A common question. In short:

• October: better wind, warmer, but more people and higher prices
• November: wind still excellent, slightly cooler (but still boardshorts), fewer people, lower prices

If your schedule is flexible and you don’t mind a degree or two less, November is an excellent alternative. Choose October for warmer water and a slightly higher measured chance of a rideable day; choose November for a quieter spot.

What to Do Off the Water

Even in October, not every day is all-day wind — and even kitesurfers need a break. El Gouna has you covered:

• Beach club right at the spot — food, drinks and sun loungers
• Coworking — an air-conditioned room with a sea view
• El Gouna town — marina walks, snorkelling, boat trips and shops, all detailed on our El Gouna guide
• Kids’ playground at the spot for families — it is not supervised childcare, so an accompanying adult stays nearby and remains responsible

Conclusion

October in El Gouna is popular for a good reason: reliable wind, pleasant temperatures and full boardshorts season. It is not the highest percentage in our station record, but the overall package is hard to beat.

But peak also means planning ahead. Book your course, instructor, accommodation and flights in time. The sooner you do, the more certain you’ll get exactly what you want.
