Kitesurfing in El Gouna — your questions
When is the best time to kitesurf in El Gouna?
Wind blows year-round — about 77% of days are rideable, based on four years of data from our own weather station. August peaks around 85%, and even the quietest month (December) still rides about 6 days in 10. Summer is the surest bet; winter offers warm sun, fewer crowds and still-reliable wind.
Is El Gouna good for complete beginners?
In typical conditions, the first ~800 m off our beach is the knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area, protected from normal surf and significant current. Beyond it are independent-riding and dedicated deeper foil zones. Depth changes with tide, location and conditions. Standard lessons have max 2 students per instructor and two-way BB Talkin helmet coaching; the IKO skills actually demonstrated are recorded at no extra charge.
How many days of lessons do I need to ride upwind?
Our Zero to Hero course is 8 hours, typically planned across 3–5 days. It progresses from body-drag and water-start work towards controlled riding and upwind technique. Your demonstrated skills, the wind and conditions decide the level reached; bought hours never guarantee independence.
Should I learn kitesurfing or wingfoiling first?
Both can work well in El Gouna. Kitesurfing is the established sport with the bigger community and gear range; wingfoiling feels different and can work in lighter wind. Many riders start with one and add the other. We teach both from the same beach, using the sandy teaching area and a separate deeper foil zone selected for the current depth.
Do I need a wetsuit in El Gouna in winter?
Yes — in winter the air sits around 22 °C and the water is cooler, so you'll want a full, long wetsuit on the water (not a shorty). We provide it. In summer it's boardshorts or bikini weather, with a t-shirt for the evening.
