If you asked us for one month — just one, when El Gouna is absolutely the best for kitesurfing — we’d say October. And it’s not a subjective feeling. It’s a combination of data, experience, and what we see at the spot year after year since 2004.
Numbers, Not Impressions
- Air temperature: 28-32°C
- Water temperature: 26-28°C
- Clothing: Boardshorts, optionally a short lycra. No wetsuit.
- Wind: Strongest and most consistent of the entire year
- Daylight: Enough hours for two full sessions
October is the month when everything comes together. It’s not too hot (like July), it’s not cool (like January). Wind blows strong and regularly. Water is warm from the summer months. Days are long enough.
Why October Stands Out
Wind After the Summer Break
Summer months in El Gouna have lighter wind — good for wingfoiling, but not always ideal for kitesurfing. From mid-August, the wind returns, and in October it’s at its peak. Thermal wind combined with regional wind systems creates stable conditions.
What that means practically: most October days, you can ride. It’s not 100% — nobody can guarantee wind — but October has statistically the highest percentage of rideable days in the year.
Temperature That Makes Sense
30°C in the air, 27°C in the water. You’re in boardshorts or swimwear. No putting on wetsuits, no taking off wetsuits, no drying wetsuits. You just go on the water and ride.
For comparison: in January, water is 18-20°C and you need a 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit. In October? Nothing. And that difference in comfort is enormous.
Ideal for All Levels
October conditions work for beginners and advanced riders alike:
- Beginners: Shallow lagoon, warm water, stable wind = ideal for courses. When you fall, it’s into pleasant water.
- Advanced: Stronger wind, plenty of space to ride, foiling, jumping. Our position in northern El Gouna (last base) means unlimited downwind space.
- Wing: Wingfoiling conditions are excellent too — strong wind means comfortable riding even on a smaller wing.
Yes, It’s Busy
We say it honestly: October is our busiest month. Why?
After the European summer, kitesurfers from across the continent want to get back on the water. And El Gouna is the closest top spot with warm water for Central Europeans. So October brings many visitors.
What it means:
- More people at the spot, but thanks to our position (northern tip, 2-3 km lagoon, 3 zones) there’s plenty of space
- Instructors are busy — especially German-speaking (German guests = 37%, Swiss 11%, plus Austrians)
- Accommodation is more expensive and fills up quickly
- Restaurant and facilities are livelier
It’s not an obstacle — it’s just reality to plan for in advance.

October vs. November — Which Is Better?
Common question. Briefly:
- October: Better wind, warmer, but more people and higher prices
- November: Wind still excellent, slightly cooler (but still boardshorts), fewer people, lower prices
If you have a flexible schedule and don’t mind one degree less — November is an excellent alternative. If you want the absolute best conditions and don’t mind the buzz — October.

What to Do Off the Water
