The method · El Gouna, Egypt · since 2004
Max 2 students per instructor, two-way helmet coaching, and a first roughly 800 m sandy teaching area that is often standable in typical conditions. A method refined through the experience of 5,500+ riders a year — at El Gouna's oldest kite school.
What "coached, not thrown in" means
Standard lessons have max 2 students per instructor and max 2 students per kite set. Beginners share one kite in pairs matched by weight — so you're never stuck in a queue watching someone else fly your kite.
Every lesson uses BB Talkin two-way Bluetooth helmets — not one-way radios, not shouting from the beach. Your coach guides you through every move as it happens, and you can answer back.
We're an official IKO Pro Center and El Gouna's oldest kite school, with school history dating to 2004. The same step-by-step framework every time — and recording the IKO skills you actually demonstrate is included free.
The first roughly 800 m off the beach is knee-to-waist deep over sand. Many learners can stand and reset there; the exact depth changes with tide and daily conditions.
It all comes together on our private El Gouna lagoon — with a first roughly 800 m teaching area that is knee-to-waist deep in typical conditions, while the active area follows the actual tide and water level. See the method for kitesurfing or the same coaching applied to wingfoiling.
How we develop the people who teach you
Instructor development at Kitepower does not stop with an IKO card.
During the day, Lukáš Vogeltanz watches lessons, writes down concrete observations and follows up with each instructor. When the team rides together, he also coaches their own technique. Stronger riders demonstrate more clearly, spot mistakes sooner and teach with greater precision.
Every week we sit down as a team, review real situations from the water and share what each person learned. This continuous loop turns individual experience into one school-wide standard.
Lessons are watched in real conditions, not judged from a checklist in an office.
The team meets every week to discuss what happened and what should change.
Each instructor gets specific feedback on teaching and personal riding technique.
What one coach learns becomes knowledge the whole team can use.
The ratio that changes everything
It's the most tangible difference from the budget schools. More attention means faster progress and fewer hours wasted standing on the beach. For beginners that's two students of similar weight sharing one kite — never a queue, never a crowd.
Our signature
Every lesson uses BB Talkin two-way Bluetooth helmets — not one-way radios, not shouting from the beach. Your instructor coaches you through every move as it happens, 100 m out, mid-manoeuvre — and you can ask back. Instant correction is the single biggest reason our students progress faster.
Structure, not chance
We're an official IKO Pro Center and the oldest kite school in El Gouna, with school history dating to 2004. That means a structured, step-by-step path every lesson — exactly the reassurance a nervous beginner needs. Recording the IKO skills and rider level you actually demonstrate is included; finishing the course does not guarantee a fixed level, and every rental centre still makes its own skills, rules, conditions and availability decision.
Honest progress
We publish our day-by-day — because honest expectations make for a happier rider. This is the typical path; talent and wind vary, so it's the route, not a promise.

A short safety briefing, then into the first roughly 800 m teaching area for kite control and bodydrag. Depth varies with tide and daily conditions.

Water starts and your first rides. For quick learners the very first rides can already come at the end of Day 1.

Linking rides, learning to stop in control, and edging to hold your line and your speed.

You work on edge control and begin holding a line upwind. The instructor records independent-rider level only after you demonstrate every required skill; course days and hours never award it automatically.
Safety by design
We dissolve the number-one fear with numbers, not adjectives. You're never out of your depth, literally — and never out there alone.
The first roughly 800 m is knee-to-waist deep over sand; actual depth changes with tide and conditions.
Available during operating hours; a specific intervention or response time cannot be guaranteed.
Beginners learn in their own zone, away from independent riders.
Every student wears a helmet with a BB Talkin headset — you're heard and you can hear.
The Wind Guarantee
Booked hours never expire — so a calm day never costs you. And the wind shows up: from our own weather station (2 million+ readings over 4 years) about 77% of days a year are rideable — peaking around 85% in August. Even December still delivers 6 out of 10 days.
% of days with a rideable session (≥ 12 kt for ≥ 2 h of daylight), from our own station. Winter air ≈ 22 °C — pack a full wetsuit, not boardshorts.
Who sets the standard
Our head coach Lukáš is an IKO Level 3 Coach — the highest level there is — and a Flysurfer & Levitaz team rider. He selects the instructors, observes their lessons and develops both their coaching and their own riding. Every week, the team reviews real situations from the water and turns individual experience into a shared standard. Finn Flügel, 2025 GKA Freestyle World Champion, trains at our home spot, coached by Lukáš. Direct sessions with Lukáš are available by arrangement; day-to-day lessons are led by instructors working within the method he oversees.

The method, in five facts
| School & heritage | Kitepower El Gouna is an IKO Pro Center and the oldest kite school in El Gouna, founded in 2004. |
|---|---|
| Student ratio | A maximum of 2 students per instructor on every beginner kite lesson (2 students share 1 kite, matched by weight). |
| Coaching tech | Every lesson uses BB Talkin two-way Bluetooth helmets — student and instructor talk in real time. |
| Certification | Recording the IKO skills and rider level actually demonstrated is free; completing a course does not guarantee a particular level. A VDWS assessment is available via our VDWS-qualified instructors (€40 exam). |
| Spot & progression | Beginners learn in the first ~800 m knee-to-waist-deep sandy area in typical conditions, with rescue support available during operating hours and no guaranteed response time. The course is usually planned across 3–5 days; only demonstrated skills determine the recorded level. |
Semi-private means 2 students of similar weight share one kite. If we can't pair you with a same-weight partner, you have two options: ride private 1:1 at the private rate, or keep the semi-private price and ride 1:1 for the equivalent (shorter) water time. We tell you up front, so it's never a surprise — and you never pay more than you booked.
Standard lessons have a maximum of 2 students per instructor and 2 students per kite set. For beginners that's 2 students of similar weight sharing one kite, so you get real coaching time instead of standing in a queue. For capable, level-matched independent riders, advanced coaching can be arranged for up to 4 riders on request with multiple complete setups.
In typical conditions, the first roughly 800 m forms a knee-to-waist-deep sandy teaching area protected from normal surf and significant current. Many learners can stand when the actual depth and their height allow. We add helmets, a separate beginner zone and rescue support during operating hours; a specific intervention or response time cannot be guaranteed.
The 8-hour Zero to Hero course is typically planned across 3–5 days, moving from body-drag and water starts towards controlled riding. Wind, fitness and demonstrated skills set the pace. The instructor records independent-rider level only when you can perform its required skills.
IKO certification of the level you actually demonstrate is included. An independent-rider record can support a rental request, but each centre still checks skills, local rules, conditions and availability. A VDWS license is also available via our VDWS-qualified instructors (€40 exam).
Your booked hours never expire — that's our Wind Guarantee, so a calm day never costs you money. And the wind shows up: from our own weather station, about 77% of days a year are rideable.
Kids can start from around 5–6 years (≈20 kg) on a program built for them. Board-control drills use the first roughly 800 m teaching area when the actual water level and the child's height allow standing; there are no bodydrag drills. Same coaching method, scaled to them.
We have up to 25 instructors in peak season speaking 8 languages on the beach (Czech, Slovak, English, German, Polish, Russian, Italian, Arabic). German-speaking instructors book out early, so reserve ahead.
In summer, boardshorts or a bikini. In winter the air sits around 22 °C, so you'll want a full wetsuit (we provide it) — not boardshorts.
