Yes, El Gouna has over 300 windy days per year. But sometimes the wind simply doesn’t blow. And you know what? That’s fine. Because El Gouna isn’t just a kite spot â it’s a complete resort where there’s plenty to do even without wind.
Here’s a list of what our customers do on windless days. Tried and tested.
1. Golf on an 18-Hole Course
El Gouna has a professional 18-hole golf course designed by Karl Litton. It’s located right in the heart of the resort and you can play year-round. Even if you’re not a golfer, you can take a lesson â and honestly, it’s a nice change from kitesurfing.
The course has a driving range, putting green, and full facilities. Morning is the best time â afternoons get hot in summer.
2. Go-Karts (and Night Racing)
This one is a hit. The go-kart track in El Gouna is open until 10 PM, and evening racing under lights is an experience. The track is fast, the karts are decent, and the adrenaline is guaranteed.
A perfect activity for groups, couples, and families with older kids. Prices are reasonable and one race lasts about 10-15 minutes. We go regularly â and yes, we take it seriously.
3. Horseback Riding
On the outskirts of El Gouna, there are stables where you can take a horse ride along the beach or into the desert. Sunset on horseback on the beach â that’s something you’ll remember.
You can go with kids too (horse led by a guide), and the ride typically lasts one to two hours. You can find the stables easily through your hotel reception or we can point you in the right direction at the center.
4. Desert Safari
Quads, buggies, or camels â a desert safari is a classic Egyptian experience, and from El Gouna you can head out on a half-day or full-day trip. Most tours include a Bedouin village, tea, and a sunset in the desert.
Honestly, it’s worth doing at least once per trip. The desert is beautiful and the contrast with the turquoise lagoon is something special.
5. Sliders Cable Park
This is a must-visit for water sports enthusiasts. The cable park for wakeboarding is right in El Gouna â plus they have an aqua park with inflatable obstacles on the water.
If you can ride a kite, wakeboarding will come relatively easy. It’s a different feel, but you have the board-riding basics. And the aqua park is perfect fun for kids and adults alike.
6. Snorkeling and Diving
The Red Sea is one of the best places in the world for diving and snorkeling. Boats depart from El Gouna to coral reefs daily â and what you’ll see underwater is simply another world.
Turtles, moray eels, rays, hundreds of species of fish and coral. Even with just a snorkel, you’ll see incredible things. For non-kiting partners, this is often the highlight of the vacation.
7. Paddle Tennis and Squash
El Gouna has several courts for paddle tennis (padel) and squash. Padel is a huge trend right now and everyone in El Gouna plays it. The courts are quality and can be booked through hotels or sports centers.
Squash is great for hot days â you play in an air-conditioned hall. And if you’re looking for an opponent, you’ll always find someone in the kite community.
8. Day Trip to Luxor
Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, Hatshepsut Temple â Luxor is one of the most awe-inspiring historical sites on the planet. From El Gouna, you can go on a day trip (by bus or plane, roughly 3 hours by car).
I recommend leaving early in the morning. You’ll spend the whole day among 3,000-year-old monuments and be back on the beach by evening. It’s worth that one windless day.
9. Day Trip to Cairo
The Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili bazaar â Cairo is chaotic, noisy, and absolutely fascinating. From El Gouna, it’s about 4-5 hours by car or one hour by plane.
A day trip is more demanding than Luxor, but doable. The pyramids are simply something you have to see with your own eyes â no photo does them justice.
10. Activities Right at the Kitepower Center
And then there’s our center, of course. Even when the wind doesn’t blow, beach life doesn’t stop.
At our restaurant, you can hang out all day â from breakfast around 8-9 AM until evening. Pizza, burgers, bowls, fresh fish, cocktails. You sit on the beach, gaze at the sea, and debate whether to have another gin and tonic.
For kids, we have a playground with wooden climbing structures, walkways, and trampolines. Families spend entire days here â kids play, parents relax.
And for those who get restless: pool table, foosball, ping-pong, and darts. During peak season, there are tournaments and the atmosphere is great.
Need to work? We have a coworking space with Wi-Fi. Many of our customers are digital nomads or people on a “working holiday” â morning work, afternoon kite. Or the other way around.
Bonus: Simply Do Nothing
You know what? Sometimes the best plan is no plan. Lie down by the pool, read a book, have a beer, and watch the lagoon. Vacation is also about slowing down. And El Gouna is the perfect place for that.
A windless day isn’t a wasted day. It’s a day when you discover a different side of El Gouna. And often, those are the days you remember the most.
